Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, Sunetra Pawar condole demise of actor Nana Patekar

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar condoled the demise of veteran movie actor Vishwanath ‘Nana’ Patekar who passed away at around 5 am on Thursday, in his Goa residence, at the age of 75.
Reacting to Patekar's demise, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted on X stating, “Such an untimely and sudden ‘exit’ of senior actor and my close friend Nana Patekar has come as a great shock to the mind. My heart is extremely sad. As big as Nana was on screen, he was also big in mind. He contributed to Marathi and Hindi cinema. The audience was impressed with his image as a patriot. His strong acting journey from ‘Krantiveer’ to ‘Natsamrat’, cannot be matched. Therefore, his passing away is a great loss”.
“Since I became the Chief Minister, I have always seen the gentleman in him. When we took up the ‘Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan’ (water-abundant farm campaign) for drought hit farmers, Nana himself came forward. Makarand Anaspure and Nana established the ‘Naam Foundation’ and worked on ‘Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan’ projects himself. This year too, when we are facing drought, Nana would never have stayed behind, but he left us all of a sudden."
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar also expressed her deep grief after Nana’s demise. She tweeted in her X post that “The news of the demise of veteran actor Nana Patekar is truly heartbreaking. Nana, who had a genuine talent for acting and a beautiful blend of sensitive social awareness, immortalised many characters from the stage to the silver screen. Nana Patekar shared a very close and affectionate bond with my late husband Ajit Dada Pawar. Therefore, the void left by his demise is particularly sad for our family as well”.
Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar also stated that the work Nana did for the underprivileged sections of society and farmers, maintaining social commitment along with art, will always be inspiring.
“Today, the feeling of losing a sensitive mind, a powerful voice and a genuine artist in the acting world is being expressed throughout the state,” Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar stated.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that, “The pride of Maharashtra and the Marathi people have been lost today. Nana Patekar, who reached the highest peaks of acting in the field of theatre and film, created his own independent identity through dialogue delivery, gestures and social awareness”.
Recalling his meeting with Nana Patekar during the recent Ganeshotsav festival, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde stated that “Nana played immortal roles in films like ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Tiranga’, ‘Prahar’, ‘Hamidabaichi Kothi’, ‘Purush’, ‘Tan-Majori’, ‘Deul’, ‘Yashwant’, ‘Wajood’ and ‘Parinda’. Without any godfather, he made a distinct mark in the Hindi film industry on his own acting prowess and preserved the self-respect of the Marathi people”.
Shinde also mentioned the social work which Nana Patekar did for drought-stricken farmers through his ‘Naam Foundation’.
“The booming and eloquent voice of Maharashtra has fallen silent and I have lost a true, heartfelt friend. An actor like him is born only once in a century,” Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said, assuring all possible help to fulfil Nana’s last dream of starting a school for the children of Kashmir.
