Neha Bora in Jadavpur, condemns attacks on JU and SRFTI, targets RSS-ABVP

Kolkata, Oct 5 (UNI) Jadavpur University witnessed a fresh controversy on Monday over the participation of political leaders from outside the campus, including AISA president Neha Bora in a convention organised by Left-affiliated student organisations, with the ABVP questioning the university authorities over the programme.
The convention, titled ‘Gen Z Movement: Unity of Generation and Resistance’, was organised at the K.P. Basu Memorial Hall. AISA national president Neha Bora, SFI national general secretary Srijan Bhattacharya and representatives of other Left student organisations attended the programme.
Bora, addressing the gathering, strongly criticised the alleged vandalism and attacks on students at autonomous educational institutions such as Jadavpur University and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), allegedly involving RSS and ABVP-linked forces.
“We have to protect our democracy,” Bora said, calling for the strengthening of mass movements across the country. She also criticised several education policies of the Narendra Modi government and demanded the scrapping of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, and the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026.
The crowd of listeners and supporters was so overwhelming that the convention ultimately had to be moved out of the designated hall to an open space. From that very stage, raising her voice against power and "fascism," Neha delivered a message: "Leftism cannot be brought to its knees through beatings or intimidation. Because this ideology neither fears nor sells out."
The AISA leader also attacked the National Testing Agency (NTA) over alleged irregularities and voiced support for the ‘Save School, Save Education’ movement. The convention also raised demands for the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and the ISI Bill. Participants further demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as part of the ongoing nationwide protests.
The programme, however, triggered objections from the ABVP, which questioned whether outside political leaders could be allowed to hold programmes inside the university campus.
Jadavpur University ABVP unit president Nikhil Das said student organisations were free to organise programmes but claimed that university rules and court directions did not permit outside political personalities to participate in political programmes on campus.
“They can organise their programme, but there is no permission to bring outside political personalities to the campus and hold programmes. The university and the High Court have specific circulars and orders on this issue,” Das said.
The ABVP has written to the university authorities seeking an explanation and demanded an inquiry into how the programme was allowed.
