Itanagar, June 6 (UNI) Security forces launched a coordinated operation along the Indo-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district, following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of armed cadres in the general area of Pongchau circle.
As the patrol moved through dense forest, they encountered suspicious movement and issued a challenge.
In response, the patrol came under heavy and indiscriminate fire from unknown individuals wielding high-calibre weapons. The security forces responded swiftly and effectively, engaging in an intense firefight, a Defence spokesperson said on Friday.
The exchange of fire continued for some time, after which the armed cadres retreated across the international border into Myanmar, using the thick forest cover for concealment.
Security forces conducted a thorough search of the area; however, the assailants had managed to escape across the border, Kohima-based Defence PRO Lt Col Amit Shukla said.
No casualties were reported on the side of the security forces, he said, adding that the operation underscores the continued vigilance and preparedness of Indian forces in safeguarding the nation’s borders against insurgent activities.
