Five-day training program on crop residue management concludes at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kaithal

Kaithal, Sep 19 (UNI) Scientific management of crop residues, rather than burning them in the field, helps maintain declining soil fertility and improve soil health, said experts at a training program organized on crop residue management at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kaithal of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar.
The five-day programme concluded on Saturday.
These trainings were organized from September 15 to September 19, 2026, in which a total of 50 participants took part.
During the training, scientists of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, scientists of the Rice Research Institute, Kaul and officials of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department gave important information to the farmers on various agricultural topics including crop residue management.
Dr. Amit Kumar, scientist at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and nodal officer for crop residue management, said that proper management of crop residues is essential for improving the quality of arable land.
Scientific management of crop residues, rather than burning them in the field, helps maintain declining soil fertility and improve soil health.
The center's scientist, Dr. Jasbir Singh, informed the farmers about the harm caused by burning crop residue. Dr. Deepak Kumar, Dr. Prashant Kaushik and Dr. Gurnam Singh also addressed the farmers on various agricultural topics. Dr. Sumit Saini, scientist at the Rice Research Institute, Kaul, provided information about the pests affecting the rice crop and their management.
Dr. Pravesh Kumar explained in detail about the diseases affecting the rice crop and their management. Sajjan Singh, an engineer with the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, explained that the government provides various agricultural machinery subsidized for crop residue management.
Farmers can take advantage of these schemes to properly manage crop residue and avoid burning it.
On the concluding day of the training, Senior Coordinator of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramesh Chandra Verma distributed reading material to the farmers.
