Chennai, May 20 (UNI) Five workers were killed in a private stone quarry
after boulders fell on them following a mudslide at Mallakottai village in the
southern Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
Police said the deceased were working in the quarry when the tragedy
occurred.
One worker, identified as Michael, was injured in the incident and was
admitted to the hospital.
The deceased were identified as Muruganandam, Arumugam, Ganesan,
Andisamy and a Harshit, a migrant worker from Odisha.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed deep anguish and grief
over their deaths and announced a solatium of Rs four lakh each to their
families.
An official release said, Mr Stalin directed the hospital authorities to provide
the best of treatment to the injured Michael, and announced an assistance
of Rs one lakh.
Mr Stalin also offered his condolences to the bereaved family members and
announced the solatium from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.
