Apart from the seven persons who died in the flood, five other people died due to a landslide in Assam’s capital town, Guwahati, last week.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority on Monday said that surging floodwaters have inundated 758 villages in the 17 districts, affecting a total of 364,046 people, including children and women.

The government has opened 52 relief camps and 103 relief distribution centres across the food-hit districts to accommodate the marooned people and to distribute the relief materials.

The ASDMA officials said that over 10000 people have taken shelter in government relief camps.

Apart from these 17 districts, urban floods have also occurred in four districts, including Darrang, Kamrup, Cachar and Kamrup Metro, where approximately 41,090 have been affected.
