Four arrested in Samastipur minor girl harassment case: SP

Samastipur, Sep 24 (UNI) Police have arrested four named accused in connection with the harassment of a minor girl on a bypass road in Jagat Singhpur village under the Karpurigram police station area of Samastipur district.
Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh said here today that a video related to the incident went viral on social media on the evening of September 23.
Following a technical examination of the video, police identified the location as the bypass embankment road in Jagat Singhpur village.
Given the seriousness of the matter, a special police team was formed to arrest those involved. The team conducted raids at several locations and arrested four accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vikas Kumar, Rahul Kumar and Rambabu Sahni, all residents of Jagat Singhpur village, and Awadhesh Paswan, a resident of Bijolia village.
The SP said a case has been registered at Karpurigram police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the POCSO Act and the Information Technology Act.
The police action follows an earlier investigation launched after a video allegedly showing several youths stopping a minor girl and behaving inappropriately with her was circulated on social media.
Police began verifying the authenticity of the video, identifying the people visible in it and confirming the location of the incident.
The SP had earlier said that those found involved would face legal action.
The SP also appealed to people not to share or circulate objectionable posts or videos on social media, warning that uploading or sharing such material can itself constitute an offence and may lead to legal action. UNI XC RS SAS
