Four cows rescued from alleged smuggling, two arrested in Palwal

Palwal, Oct 6 (UNI) Haryana Police have busted an alleged cow-smuggling operation in Palwal, rescuing four cows and arresting two men who were allegedly transporting the animals in a canter for slaughter, police said.
The action was carried out by a team of Camp Palwal Police Station under the guidance of Palwal Superintendent of Police Deepti Garg, IPS.
According to Inspector Krishna Gopal, SHO of Camp Palwal Police Station, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Mukesh Kumar was patrolling the Palwal-Aligarh Road near Shamshabad on October 4 when it received information that four cows were being transported in a white canter bearing registration number UP-16-NT-4115 and were allegedly being taken towards Mewat for slaughter.
Acting on the information, the police team set up a checkpoint near Bhagat Ji Colony. When the canter approached the checkpoint, its driver allegedly attempted to stop the vehicle and the two occupants tried to flee.
The police team immediately intervened and apprehended both men.
During a search of the vehicle, police found a tarpaulin covering the cargo area. After removing it, the team found four cows tied with ropes in a cramped and allegedly cruel manner, with no adequate arrangement for food or water, police said.
The canter, ropes and mobile phones found in the possession of the accused were taken into police custody as part of the investigation. The arrested men have been identified as Ram Kumar, a resident of Bhaure village in Gaya district of Bihar, who was allegedly driving the vehicle, and Abhishek Tyagi, a resident of Shyam Park, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, who was allegedly accompanying him as the conductor.
A case has been registered against the accused at Camp Palwal Police Station under relevant provisions of law.
The four rescued cows have been shifted to a gaushala for safe custody and care.
Police said both accused are being produced before a court and the process of seeking their remand is underway.
Further investigation is being conducted to establish the full network and circumstances surrounding the alleged transportation of the animals.
