J&K DYSS establishes academies for promotion of sports excellence, talent identification in Ganderbal

Jammu, Oct 6 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, towards the promotion of sports excellence, identification of talent and development of a robust sporting ecosystem across the J&K, have established seven Sports Academies and made them operational at Sports Complex in the premises of Government College of Physical Education, Gadoora, district Ganderbal, Kashmir.
As per the order issued by the Director General, Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, Anuradha Gupta, the academies established with officials deployed as Coaches at the Academies of excellence included PEM Nazir Ahmed Malik (Volleyball), posted at HSS Wakura, PET Mushtaq Ahmed Ganaie (Kabaddi), posted at HSS Rabitar, PET Rouf Ahmed Sofi (Baseball), posted at DYSSO Ganderbal, PET Mehraj ud Din Magrey (Cricket), posted at BHSS Khamulla, REK Azra Qadri (Badminton), posted at GMS Kamangarpora, REK Ishfaq AHmed Bhat (Handball), posted at GMS Kawchek and REK Jamsheed Ahmed (Football), posted at GMS Sehpora.
As per the order, objectives of establishing academies is to provide structured coaching and scientific training, identify and develop young sporting talent, create opportunities for competitive exposure and develop athletes capable of achieving national-level podium finishes.
Coaching in these Academies shall be provided free of cost and admission shall be open to players from all districts of J&K, read an order adding, "However, those from outside Ganderbal District shall have to manage their boarding and lodging themselves."
Admission shall be based on physical fitness tests and sport-specific selection criteria while the time schedule for the academies shall be approved by the Directorate on the recommendations of the concerned coaches.
Earlier, in July month, the Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) deployed coaches at nine ‘Academies of Excellence’ (AsOE) commenced at ‘Khel Gaon’ situated in Nagrota area of Jammu.
The Physical Education Teachers have been deployed in the disciplines of Taekwondo, Athletics, Hockey, Football, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Badminton, Wrestling and Fencing.
