Ghazipur (UP), May 21 (UNI) Four youths, including two brothers, were electrocuted and three others were injured after they came into high tension electricity wire during a religious ceremony in Mardah area of Ghazipur district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said here.
Police sources said that the incident took place when Kashi Das Puja was being organised at the house of priest Surendra Yadav in Narwar village under Mardah police station on Wednesday morning.
"During preparations for the puja in the morning, a flag was being hoisted on a very long raw bamboo at the place of worship. While erecting the bamboo with the flag, it touched the 33,000 volt wire passing above," they said.
Police said that seven persons engaged in the preparations for the puja got hit by electric current.
"While four persons died in this accident, three others are being treated. The deceased include Chhote Lal Yadav (35), Ravindra Yadav alias Kallu (29), Gorakhnath Yadav (23) and Aman Yadav (19)," they said.
Police said that Ravindra Yadav alias Kallu Yadav was a constable in the UP Police and Gorakhnath Yadav was his real brother.
"The injured include Abhorik Yadav (16), Santosh Yadav (32) and Jitendra Yadav (30). Abhorik's condition is stated to be serious and he has been referred to BHU Varanasi. The remaining two are being treated at Fatima Hospital in Mau district," they said.
