Gavaskar coined ‘One World One Family’; Tendulkar also backs mission: Madhu Sudhan Sai

Bengaluru, Sept 19 (UNI) Cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar are associated with the One World One Family mission, with its founder Sadhguru Madhu Sudhan Sai revealing that the mission’s name itself was suggested by Gavaskar.
Speaking to reporters at a “Compassion in Action” event here, Madhu Sudhan Sai said Gavaskar had been associated with the initiative since 2011-12 and was helping promote its work in education, healthcare, nutrition and social service.
Recalling how the mission got its name, he said he had initially referred to the Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” during a conversation with Gavaskar.
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is Sanskrit and nobody will pick it up. Somehow while speaking, ‘One World One Family’ came out of my mouth and he said that should be the right name for the mission,” Madhu Sudhan Sai said.
Describing Gavaskar as one of the most respected cricketers in the country, he said the former India captain brought to the mission not merely his popularity but his credibility.
“He is not merely popular, but he brings credibility as a person of character,” he said.
Madhu Sudhan Sai said Gavaskar regarded his work for society as his “third innings”, following his cricket career and subsequent stint as a commentator.
On Tendulkar, he said the former India captain was also supporting and promoting the mission, while simultaneously pursuing his own philanthropic initiatives.
“Tendulkar also is a part of it. Sachin Tendulkar also is a part of it,” he said.
He recalled that Tendulkar and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh had inaugurated the cricket ground at Muddenahalli as part of efforts to create awareness about the mission.
Madhu Sudhan Sai said Tendulkar's foundation was working with tribal girls to promote education and sports and that he had discussed with the cricketer ways of expanding such initiatives.
“He has already thought about how can I impact the rural and tribal girls,” he said.
He said Tendulkar also visits the institution and hospitals associated with the mission and speaks about its work.
Madhu Sudhan Sai said Gavaskar and Tendulkar were contributing in their own ways to the broader objective of taking the message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” beyond India.
The One World One Family mission, headquartered at Muddenahalli in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district, is active in nearly 100 countries and undertakes programmes in education, healthcare, nutrition and social care, he said.
