Sadhguru Madhu Sudhan Sai unveils plan to impact 1 billion lives globally

Bengaluru, Sept 19 (UNI) One World One Family mission founder Madhu Sudhan Sai on Saturday unveiled an ambitious plan to impact one billion lives globally over the next 10-15 years, estimating that the initiative could require about USD 100 billion if the average intervention cost worked out to USD 100 per person.
Speaking to reporters at a “Compassion in Action” event here, he said the proposed initiative would focus on preventive healthcare, nutrition, education, environmental consciousness and climate action, with the objective of bringing about lasting improvements in the lives of people lacking access to basic opportunities.
“The document is underway and what kind of amount of money it will require, really I cannot guess it at this point of time. But even if I think that on an average, if I have to spend USD 100 per person to one billion people, that would be USD 100 billion over a period of time,” he said.
He stressed that the initiative could not be implemented by a single organisation or individual and called for different organisations, governments, corporations and individuals to work towards a common global vision.
“This is not going to happen with one organisation, one person. We have to get everybody to work together,” he said.
Madhu Sudhan Sai said the proposed mission would seek to make improvements “irreversible”, ensuring that beneficiaries would not return to their earlier conditions after receiving support.
“It means once we make that happen, they don't go back to their old life again. They progress from there. It does not reverse,” he said.
He said the initiative would particularly target the “bottom of the pyramid” — people across the world without adequate access to clean water, sanitation, food, electricity, education, healthcare and basic opportunities.
Having travelled to nearly 50 countries, he said he had witnessed pockets of poverty not only in developing regions but also in developed countries.
“If we really want to call Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam as our motto, we have to look after all our brothers and sisters across the world,” he said.
He said preventive healthcare would be a major component of the proposed programme, arguing that preventing diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension was considerably less costly than treating them after they developed.
Nutrition would be another major focus, particularly fortified nutrition providing essential vitamins and minerals to children and mothers.
He said the education component would complement existing systems through improved teaching methodologies and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance pedagogy and teaching quality.
Environmental initiatives, including tree planting, cleaning water bodies and improving local surroundings, would also form part of the proposed programme.
Madhu Sudhan Sai said the One World One Family mission, headquartered at Muddenahalli in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district, was already active in nearly 100 countries through education, healthcare, nutrition and social-care programmes.
He said the organisation currently served about 10 million breakfasts every morning to children across 25 states and four union Territories, while around 55 lakh children in Karnataka received morning ragi meals every day.
The organisation also runs educational institutions, hospitals and a free medical college inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023, he said.
On transparency, Madhu Sudhan Sai said the trust's finances were subject to multiple levels of auditing, including internal and external audits and government oversight. He also said the Prashanti Bal Mandir Trust was listed on India's Social Stock Exchange.
He said the larger philosophy behind One World One Family was rooted in India's ancient concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and was intended to move beyond charity towards a system of shared responsibility.
“Those who have more can help those who have less as a member of the family. So, it is no more a charity, but it is a world with shared understanding, shared vision and caring for each other,” he said.
