Gen Z, be reasonable and rational: Javed Akhtar

Pune, Oct 25 ( UNI) renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar said that society is progressing rapidly, but cultural roots are being weakened as growth is prioritised over depth, posing a danger.
''Our society is progressing rapidly, but our cultural roots are shrinking. We are like a tree growing taller and spreading wider without strengthening its roots. No tree can stand without deep roots. We are gaining speed at the cost of depth, which is dangerous, Akhtar said at the inaugural ceremony of the seventh Symbiosis Literary Festival.
Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA), Symbiosis International (Deemed University), organised the seventh edition of the Symbiosis Literary Festival at Symbiosis Ishanya Bhavan, Viman Nagar, Pune, on October 24 and 25.
The two-day festival, themed “Where Stories Gather,” was inaugurated by renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who also participated in a discussion on Hindostan Humara, a poetry anthology edited by his father, noted Urdu poet Jaan Nisar Akhtar.
Prof (Dr) S B Mujumdar, Founder and President, Symbiosis; Dr Vidya Yeravdekar, Chancellor, Symbiosis International University; and Dr Shweta Deshpande, Director, SSLA, were among the distinguished dignitaries present at the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking at the occasion, Akhtar said, “No country can be called a developed country without education. The more educated you are, the more developed you become. No government, no political party has given as much importance to education as was required. This void has been filled to a great extent by responsible citizens like Dr. Mujumdar. They are doing what the government should have done. So, you are the real patriots.''
