Goa to host IPL 2027 mini-auction on December 16: Report

New Delhi (UNI) The IPL 2027 mini-auction will be held in Goa on December 16, with franchises set to finalise their retention plans by November 15. The day-long auction will coincide with the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
According to a report by Cricinfo, the IPL has informed all franchises of the retention deadline, which falls nearly a month before the auction. After the deadline, the league will share the list of registered players with the teams, allowing them to shortlist their preferred options. The final player list, along with the order of auction sets, is expected to be circulated in the week leading up to the event.
The trade window has seen two deals since the conclusion of the 2026 season. In June, Lucknow Super Giants traded captain Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals in exchange for wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav. More recently, Delhi sent fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad and received uncapped legspinner Zeeshan Ansari in return.
Under IPL rules, the trade window opens a month after the season ends and remains active until a week before the auction. It then reopens and continues until a month before the next season begins.
The IPL has yet to announce the schedule for the 2027 season. In 2024, the league had outlined a March 14 to May 30 window for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 editions. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia indicated after the board’s annual general meeting in September that the 2027 tournament could begin towards the end of March.
The December auction will be the last mini-auction under the IPL’s current cycle, with a mega auction planned ahead of the 2028 season. That auction will also mark the beginning of the league's next media rights cycle, although the BCCI has not yet issued the tender.
The IPL’s media rights were sold for Rs 48,390.5 crore (approximately US$6.2 billion) in 2022, underlining the tournament’s standing among the world's most valuable sporting properties.
