Gurugram: Two arrested for stealing 32 iPhones worth Rs 45 lakh from sealed transport vehicle

Gurugram, Nov 6 (UNI) Gurugram Police have arrested two persons, including the driver of a transport vehicle, for allegedly stealing 32 iPhones worth approximately Rs 45 lakh from a sealed consignment being transported from Farukhnagar to Odisha.
The accused have been identified as Amit Pandey (30), a resident of Dabua Colony in Faridabad, and Kartikeya Srivastava alias Kartik (32), a resident of Satya Nagar in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, the complaint was lodged at Farukhnagar police station on October 29. The complainant stated that 206 cartons of goods had been dispatched by Shreeji Freight Carrier from Reliance Retail Limited, Farukhnagar, to Chaudwar in Cuttack district of Odisha in a sealed vehicle driven by Amit Pandey.
On reaching the destination, the vehicle's seal was found intact.
However, during inspection, it was discovered that the actual mobile phones were missing from 32 cartons, while their empty boxes and packaging cartons had been left behind. The stolen iPhones were valued at around Rs 45 lakh.
Following registration of a case, a team of the Farukhnagar Crime Branch launched an investigation and arrested Pandey from Pali village in Faridabad on November 2. His alleged accomplice, Kartikeya Srivastava, was arrested from Lucknow on November 5.
Police said Pandey was produced before a court and taken on four days of police remand for interrogation.
During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that they had stolen the mobile phones from the sealed transport vehicle during transit. To avoid detection, they removed the phones but left the empty boxes and packaging inside the cartons.
Police have recovered all 32 stolen iPhones, the canter vehicle allegedly used in the crime and a pair of pliers from the accused.
Further investigation is underway, police said.
