Haryana: Five-storey building tilts after excavation in Gurugram; 3 houses evacuated, FIR registered

Gurugram, Oct 20 (UNI) Residents of three houses in Gurugram's Sushant Lok-1 were evacuated after a nearly completed five-storey building tilted following foundation excavation on an adjoining plot, prompting police to register a case against the plot owner, contractor and excavator operator.
The incident occurred at Plot No. 1770 in Block C of Sushant Lok-1 on Monday night, when the building tilted approximately 2 to 2.5 inches to one side, allegedly because of excavation work on the neighbouring property.
According to a police spokesperson, a team from Sushant Lok police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the structural instability and immediately initiated precautionary measures. Police evacuated residents from three nearby houses to prevent possible casualties in the event of further structural movement or collapse.
The spokesperson said the building was almost complete when excavation for the foundation of an adjoining plot allegedly caused it to tilt. Acting on a complaint from the affected property owner, police registered a case against the owner of the adjoining plot, the contractor responsible for the excavation and the JCB operator involved in the work. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
Police said the timely evacuation was undertaken as a precaution against a potentially serious accident.
Gurugram Police also urged property owners and contractors to strictly follow prescribed safety standards during excavation and construction, particularly where adjoining buildings could be affected. UNI KK SS
