Dussehra celebrated with traditional fervour in Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 20 (UNI) The festival of Dussehra, symbolising the victory of good over evil, was celebrated with traditional fervour at the the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, on Tuesday.
The highlight of the celebrations was the burning of the effigy of demon king Ravana in the evening, marking the triumph of good over evil.
The programme was organised by the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) in association with the Punit Balan Group.
The event brought together people from all walks of life, including Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, members of different political parties and other sections of society.
Organisers said the celebration was not merely a religious festival but a reaffirmation of Kashmir’s pluralistic ethos, where people of different faiths could come together to celebrate one another’s traditions with dignity and warmth.
The message of Dussehra — “that truth and goodness ultimately triumph over evil” — resonated beyond religious boundaries, reminding everyone of the importance of compassion, mutual respect and unity, they said.
The Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti reiterated that “such collective celebrations are essential to strengthening inter-community bonds and nurturing an atmosphere in which Kashmir’s diverse religious and cultural traditions can flourish together.”
The Samiti extended its “sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this celebration a resounding success, reinforcing the message that Kashmir belongs to all its people and that its future is best served by harmony, coexistence and shared humanity.”
