Haryana: Kartikeya Sharma challenges opposition over EC protests,

Rohtak, Oct 11 (UNI) Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma today took a firm stand against opposition protests targeting the Election Commission, asserting that political dissent must respect constitutional procedures and that the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner cannot be determined by street protests.
Responding to questions from reporters about the opposition's agitation against the Election Commission, Sharma said the Chief Election Commissioner held an independent constitutional office and that the Constitution and the law clearly laid down the procedure for removal.
He said democracy guaranteed every individual and political party the right to protest, but that right had to be exercised within legal boundaries and established democratic norms.
Sharma maintained that political parties raising questions about constitutional institutions must remain mindful of facts, legal provisions and the procedures governing those institutions.
His remarks came amid opposition protests over the functioning of the Election Commission, bringing renewed attention to the confrontation between political parties over electoral accountability and constitutional independence.
The MP also responded to questions concerning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks about an economic crisis. However, the details of his response were not immediately available.
Sharma was speaking during his visit to Bahu Akbarpur village in Rohtak district, where he inaugurated a community facility for the Brahmin and Sain communities and interacted with local residents, youth and sportspersons.
During the programme, members of the village's women's football team highlighted their sporting requirements, prompting Sharma to announce Rs 51,000 in financial assistance for purchasing sports shoes.
He said talented women athletes should not be deprived of opportunities because of inadequate resources and assured the players that he would make efforts to support their sporting ambitions.
The parliamentarian also offered financial assistance from his personal funds for establishing an artificial intelligence-based library in the village, emphasising the importance of connecting rural youth with emerging technologies and modern educational facilities.
Later, addressing a programme in Charkhi Dadri, Sharma announced a statewide cleanliness and beautification competition carrying a prize of Rs 1 crore.
Under the proposed "Before-After" initiative, villages and urban local bodies will be encouraged to undertake cleanliness and beautification projects and submit photographs documenting improvements in public spaces.
Sharma said nearly 6,000 villages across Haryana, besides urban local bodies, would be eligible to participate.
He said the initiative aimed to transform cleanliness from a government-driven exercise into a broader public movement involving local communities.
The MP maintained that greater public participation, improved educational opportunities and stronger sporting infrastructure were essential to Haryana's development. UNI KK SS
