Haryana: Man arrested for providing bank account in Rs 6.94 lakh Telegram task fraud

Faridabad, Nov 3 (UNI) A man has been arrested for allegedly providing his bank account to cyber fraudsters in a Rs 6.94 lakh online task scam, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Vishal Mehar, a resident of Awar village in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ballabgarh.
According to police, Rs 50,000 of the amount cheated from the victim was transferred into the accused's bank account.
The case came to light following a complaint by Prashant, a resident of Sector 11, who alleged that he was duped of Rs 6,94,800 on the pretext of earning money through online tasks.
The complainant told police that he came across a link while browsing Facebook, which led him to a WhatsApp group. Members of the group lured him with promises of earning money through part-time and full-time work and subsequently asked him to complete tasks on Telegram.
Enticed by promises of high returns, he invested Rs 6,94,800 in prepaid tasks. However, neither the promised profits nor his invested amount was returned, police said.
A case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Ballabgarh, under relevant provisions of law.
During investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly made his bank account available to cyber fraudsters, through which Rs 50,000 of the cheated amount was routed.
The accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, police said.UNI KK AAB
