Haryana: Panchkula Police create Green Corridor as Army family donates 5 organs

Panchkula, Sep 20 (UNI) As his father lay brain-dead, his son, an Army personnel, and other members of his family today chose to donate the dying man's five organs, turning their personal tragedy into a lifeline for strangers.
That extraordinary courage set Panchkula Police into motion, as they forged a green corridor from Chandimandir to Chandigarh Airport, ensuring that two kidneys, one liver and two eyes reached desperate patients in Delhi before the clock ran out.
The story began with a family's heartbreak and ended with a race against time. After the Army personnel consented to the donation following his father's brain death at the Command Hospital in Chandimandir Cantonment, medical teams knew they had a narrow window to make the gift count.
Understanding the weight of the moment, Panchkula Police threw a security blanket over the route. DCP Crime and Traffic Amrinder Singh said the corridor stretched from Command Hospital through Old Panchkula right up to the Zirakpur border, with traffic personnel stationed at every critical point to clear the way. Under the supervision of SHO Traffic Varinder Kumar, teams monitored every turn, every signal, every possible delay, giving the ambulance carrying the precious cargo an uninterrupted passage. Police units in adjoining districts coordinated seamlessly, ensuring the handoff from road to air was flawless.
The organs were flown to Safdarjung Hospital and the Army Hospital in Delhi, where teams of surgeons and hopeful families had been waiting. For them, this was not just a delivery; it was a reprieve from a waiting list that too often ends in mourning.
But beyond the sirens and the speed, Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain wanted the focus to rest on the people who made it all possible: the donor's family. "Deciding to donate the organs of a loved one is an extremely emotional and courageous decision for any family," Nain said. He made it clear that the police operation was never just about managing traffic. It was about honoring a family's choice to find meaning in their deepest loss.
The operation demanded precise choreography between the grieving family, the medical staff at Command Hospital, Panchkula Traffic Police, and district police units along the route. Every second mattered. Every gesture counted.
As the aircraft carrying the five organs lifted off from Chandigarh, an Army father completed his final journey not with a funeral dirge, but with the quiet beat of new hearts, the renewed glow of new eyes, and the promise of new mornings for people he would never meet.
In the end, Panchkula Police did not just clear a road. They cleared the way for a legacy.
