Haryana Police arrest fintech manager for allegedly supplying fake bank accounts to cybercriminals

Panchkula, Oct 2 (UNI) Haryana Police have arrested a fintech company's district sales manager for allegedly helping create fake bank accounts and supplying them to cybercriminals, uncovering what investigators suspect was a financial channel used to facilitate online fraud in Nuh, police said on Friday.
The accused, Soyab Ali, a resident of Patakpur village in Ferozepur Jhirka, was arrested on October 1 by a team of the Nuh Cyber Crime Police Station in connection with a case under investigation.
Ali was working as a district sales manager with Spice Money Pvt Ltd, which functions as a banking correspondent for NSDL Payments Bank, according to a police spokesman.
Police alleged that Ali colluded with Rasid, a retailer from Padhaini village who has already been arrested in the case, to open fake NSDL Payments Bank accounts through a Common Service Centre (CSC) and subsequently provide them to cybercriminals.
Investigators are probing the network of accounts allegedly created through the arrangement and whether they were used to receive, transfer or withdraw proceeds of online fraud.
The investigation has also led to a halt in the opening of NSDL Payments Bank accounts in the Nuh area, police said.
“Following the arrest, NSDL has stopped opening bank accounts in the Nuh area and has barred the region for account opening. Spice Money has also stopped opening NSDL bank accounts in Nuh,” the spokesman said.
Police are now investigating how many allegedly fake accounts were opened, who controlled them and whether the accounts were used in other cybercrime cases.
Investigators are also tracing the money trail linked to the accounts and examining whether other retailers, banking correspondents or intermediaries were involved in the alleged network.
Nuh Superintendent of Police Dr Arpit Jain has directed cybercrime teams to intensify action against not only those directly involved in online fraud but also individuals allegedly providing the financial infrastructure used to execute such crimes, the spokesman said.
Haryana Police said specialised teams were using technical tools to identify cybercrime networks and their facilitators.
The spokesman claimed that cybercrime incidents in Nuh had declined substantially since Jain took charge, while police teams continued technology-driven operations to curb such offences.
Further investigation in the case is underway.UNI KK AAB
