Haryana Police bust credit card fraud call centre, arrest five, 145 SIM cards seized

Panchkula, Sep 17 (UNI) Haryana Police have busted an alleged Delhi-based cyber fraud call centre and arrested five people for duping credit card holders by promising higher credit limits and redemption of reward points, a police spokesman said on Thursday.
Police recovered ₹70,000 in cash, four mobile phones and 145 inactive SIM cards during the operation by Faridabad's Cyber Crime Central police team, the spokesman said.
The arrested accused were identified as alleged mastermind Rajat Kumar of Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, Vikas Singh of Azamgarh, Shiv Shankar alias Raghav and Abdul Haq of Delhi's Sangam Vihar, and Rohit of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.
The accused were arrested from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Police said the alleged fraud operation was being run from a call-centre-like setup in Delhi's Saket area.
The case was registered after a complainant was allegedly cheated of ₹70,750 through three credit card transactions of ₹20,277, ₹5,000 and ₹45,473.
The police spokesman said the accused allegedly called people posing as bank employees and offered to increase their credit card limits or help redeem reward points.
In this case, the complainant, who held an Axis Bank credit card, contacted customer care after experiencing an issue with the card.
The accused subsequently allegedly contacted the complainant posing as bank representatives and sent a link through WhatsApp on the pretext of resolving the problem.
Police said the complainant was induced to download an APK file, through which the accused allegedly obtained credit card information and carried out the fraudulent transactions.
Investigators identified Rajat as the alleged mastermind who operated the call centre and assigned different roles to other members of the group.
Vikas allegedly trained women working at the call centre on how to speak to potential victims, keep them engaged and obtain credit card information.
He also allegedly managed the mobile phones and SIM cards used for making calls. Police said other women allegedly associated with the call centre were yet to be arrested.
Abdul Haq allegedly persuaded victims to download APK files, while Rohit allegedly supplied SIM cards used by the group.
According to police, Rohit would allegedly generate two SIM cards in the name of a customer seeking a connection, give one to the customer and retain the other.
The retained SIM cards were allegedly supplied to Rajat for use in cyber fraud.
Police recovered 145 inactive SIM cards from him.
Investigators also found that the money allegedly taken from the complainant's credit card was used to purchase three mobile phones, which were later sold to Shiv Shankar alias Raghav.
All five accused were produced before a court and sent to judicial custody, the police spokesman said.

HP school education board warns 129 state open school study centres for not conducting PCP classes

Dharamshala, Sep 17 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has taken strict action against 129 State Open School (SOS) study centres for failing to conduct mandatory Personal Contact Programme (PCP) classes for students enrolled in the September 2026 session.
