Haryana: Power lines will be laid over dead bodies of farmers, there will be agitation against privatisation: BKU's Mann

Satish Seth
Kaithal, Oct 20 (UNI) The biggest order to sell Haryana's power system has been issued, with the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission granting Eleven Power Private Limited a parallel license to distribute electricity in Gurugram and Nuh districts for 25 years.
On paper, it's being said that the public will have a choice, but the reality on the ground is that the fate of 8.3 lakh families has been handed over to a private company. Ratan Mann, state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Haryana, called this the biggest betrayal in the power sector since independent India.
Mann said that the government is claiming an investment of Rs 4,717 crore. He questioned whether the company has brought this investment from its own pocket.
"This money will be recovered from our hard work and sweat. Today they will erect poles, tomorrow they will lay wires, and the day after tomorrow they will install expensive smart meters in every home and start looting us."
Mann said that farmers receive subsidies on tube wells. In a backward district like Nuh, poor people get electricity at Rs 2 per unit. Nuh farmers are already starving for water. Now they will be left yearning for electricity as well.
He said that big businessmen of Gurugram, industrialists of Manesar, and small shopkeepers of Sohna and Pataudi are overjoyed that they will get 24-hour electricity. They don't realize that in the name of 24-hour electricity, they will be robbed 24 hours a day.
Today, the government company supplies electricity to industry for ₹7.50. Rates remain under control even during peak loads.
Rattan Mann said that the time has come for farmers, laborers, employees, trade boards, and RWAs to come together on one platform. If we divide today, all of Haryana will be sold tomorrow.
"Today, Gurugram and Nuh have been selected as a trial. Tomorrow, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, and Panipat will all be sold. Therefore, all sections must unite."
Mann warned that if the decision isn't reversed, power lines will be laid over the dead bodies of farmers.
"We won't allow a single private pole to be erected in our fields," he said. "Thousands and millions of farmers are ready to sacrifice their lives. This decision must be reversed immediately, or the government should be prepared for a protest. We won't back down."
