Heart attack: Former Kerala CM V.S. Achuthanandan hospitalised

Thiruvananthapuram, June 23 (UNI) Former Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has been hospitalised following a heart attack on Monday morning.
He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at Pattom SUT Hospital. His health condition is satisfactory, sources said.
Due to health issues, V.S. Achuthanandan has been on complete rest at the residence of his son, Arun Kumar, at Barton Hill here.
He served as the Chief Minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011. He was also the Leader of the Opposition during the periods 1992–1996, 2001–2006, and 2011–2016. He is one of the founding leaders of the CPI(M) and currently the senior most living leader of the Communist Party in India.
V.S. was born on October 20, 1923, in Velikkakath house, Punnapra, Alappuzha, to Sankaran and Akkamma. He served as the party’s state secretary three times from 1980 to 1991.
He was a member of the party’s highest decision-making body, the Politburo, for 23 years from 1986 to 2009. He contested ten legislative assembly elections between 1965 and 2016 and won seven of them, including the 2016 election.
V.S. rose to prominence as a popular leader during his tenure as Leader of the Opposition. His struggles both inside and outside the legislative assembly on issues affecting the public earned him widespread attention. He took strong stances against forest encroachments, sand mining mafias, and corruption.
