High-level probe demanded into Tral man’s death

Srinagar, June 24 (UNI) Members of the Sikh community have demanded a high-level probe into the death of a 40-year-old man in the Tral area of Pulwama district.
The deceased, identified as Surjeet Singh , was found hanging from a tree in the Daramgund Aripal area on Monday afternoon. According to officials, Singh had left his home around 11:00 a.m., leaving his mobile phone behind. His body was discovered around 4:00 p.m.

Police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Following the incident, members of the local Sikh community staged a protest on Tuesday morning, demanding a thorough and transparent probe.

The Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Tral, Rafiq Ahmad Naik, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tral visited the protest site and assured the protesters of a time-bound and impartial investigation into the matter.
After the assurance, the protesters dispersed peacefully, and normal traffic movement in the area was restored.
All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina also demanded a high level probe should be held in the case.
" It does not look like a suicide. He was found hanging from a thin branch that was too weak to support the weight of someone attempting suicide," Raina said.
