Himachal BJP to hold four marches, targets Congress over alleged bid to destabilise democracy

Shimla, Oct 28 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajiv Bindal on Wednesday accused the Congress and the INDIA bloc of attempting to create political instability and undermine democratic institutions, announcing four marches across the state under the party's ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign. Addressing a press conference here, Bindal alleged that the Congress, under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, was attempting to create an atmosphere of anarchy after being rejected by voters in elections.
He claimed that the opposition was seeking political change through unrest rather than democratic processes.
India was a democracy where governments were formed and changed in accordance with the Constitution, he said, accusing the Congress of violating constitutional principles despite frequently invoking the Constitution in its political campaigns.
Referring to the dismissal of elected governments, the constitutional arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir and the Emergency imposed in 1975, Bindal questioned the Congress's democratic credentials.
He alleged that restrictions on civil liberties during the Emergency and subsequent constitutional amendments reflected the party's disregard for democratic norms. The BJP leader further accused Rahul Gandhi and INDIA bloc parties of repeatedly questioning constitutional institutions and creating public distrust. He claimed that India had strengthened its economic, strategic and developmental position under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the Congress was attempting to destabilise the government out of political frustration.
On the issue of infiltration, Bindal alleged that the Congress and its allies were protecting illegal immigrants for electoral gains. He stressed the need to safeguard the rights of Indian citizens and maintain the integrity of electoral rolls, asserting that voting rights should be ensured only for eligible citizens.
Announcing the BJP's campaign schedule, Bindal said four major marches would be organised in Dharamshala, Shimla, Mandi and Hamirpur.
The first march would be held in Dharamshala on October 30 under the leadership of MP Rajiv Bhardwaj and former Assembly Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar.
On November 1, a march would be organised in Shimla from the old bus stand to Chaura Maidan. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, MP Anurag Thakur and MP Suresh Kashyap would participate in the programme.
BJP state vice-president Bittu Verma would coordinate the event. Two marches would be held on November 4. In Mandi, the march would be led by former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, with former minister Suresh Bhardwaj as coordinator.
In Hamirpur, Bindal would lead the march, with MP Anurag Thakur, Satpal Singh Satti and other leaders participating. Randhir Sharma would coordinate the programme. Bindal said the campaign aimed to raise public awareness about democratic values and highlight what he described as the Congress's political shortcomings. He also criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over remarks allegedly made against Prime Minister Modi, asserting that the BJP would reach out to people with its commitment to the Constitution, democracy and national unity.
