Haryana police seize 520 kg cannabis worth Rs 1.35 crore, arrest two

Karnal, Oct 28 (UNI) Haryana Police seized nearly 520 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 1.35 crore and arrested two men after intercepting a truck carrying the contraband concealed beneath sacks of cashew shells in Karnal district, police said.
The seizure was made late on Tuesday night on a service road along the national highway near Gharaunda following intelligence about a Rajasthan-registered truck allegedly transporting narcotics.
Police said the Anti-Narcotics Cell intercepted the vehicle and recovered 519.9 kg of cannabis packed in 19 sacks hidden beneath bags of cashew shells.
The arrested men were identified as Bilal, son of Abdul Hamid, and Yahuda, son of Shafiq, both residents of Firozpur Namak village in Haryana's Nuh district.
"During the search, police recovered 19 sacks containing 519.9 kg of cannabis concealed beneath bags of cashew shells. The estimated value of the seized contraband is Rs 1.35 crore," police said in a statement.
Sub-Inspector Rajan Singh told reporters that the operation followed specific intelligence received by the Anti-Narcotics Cell, which was patrolling the Gharaunda highway service road on October 27.
Preliminary questioning indicated that the consignment had been loaded near the Odisha border and was being transported for further distribution, police said.
Bilal owned and drove the seized Tata truck, while Yahuda worked as its cleaner, investigators said.
Police described the two as uncle and nephew.
The truck and its cargo were seized, and a case was registered at Gharaunda police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said investigators were trying to establish the source and intended destination of the consignment and identify other people potentially involved in the trafficking network.
The operation was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Cell under the supervision of Karnal Superintendent of Police Karan Goyal.
