Himanta takes jibe at Mamata, attacks Rahul Gandhi

Siliguri, Sep 19 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday took a dig at former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, saying she would not return to state politics and should now “take rest”, while claiming that a new phase of development has started in Bengal.
On a visit to Cooch Behar, Sarma, replying to a query on the arrest of the Congress candidate for Nandigram - where a by-poll is slated for October 6 - he said a person accused in a murder case should be arrested and punished.
He also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning his leadership and asking whether he had given anyone a “licence to murder”. Sarma poked fun at Mamata All India Trinamool Congress’s (MAITC) new election symbol.
Referring to the football symbol allotted to the Mamata Banerjee-led MAITC for the forthcoming bypolls, he said “Mamata Banerjee’s jora phool has disappeared. Now the football will also disappear.”
He said Banerjee “will never come back” in West Bengal politics and added that she should now take rest and watch how development was being carried out in the state under the new government led by Suvendu Adhikari.

Turning to his visit to Madhupur, Sarma said he had repeatedly expressed his desire to visit the historic religious site and develop it as a tourist destination.
He claimed that the previous government did not invite him, whereas the new government has enabled his visit under what he described as a “double-engine government”.
Earlier in the day, he had also called for cooperation between the Assam and West Bengal governments to preserve Madhupur Satra.
Sarma further claimed that West Bengal had witnessed no development for decades and said development was now taking place at “super-fast speed”, adding that the state would “take on Assam”.
“Once West Bengal is fully developed, the eastern part of the country will also witness development,” he said.
