Kolkata: Cop's body found hanging in police training school

Kolkata, Sep 19 (UNI) The body of a police officer was found hanging on Saturday morning at the Alipore Police Training School (PTS) here, an officer said.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak Tamang. Colleagues recovered his body from a restroom on the fourth floor of the commando barracks.
Information reached the PTS around 9:50 a.m. that a man had been spotted hanging inside the restroom. Upon arriving at the scene, colleagues found the door locked from the inside. After breaking down the door, they discovered Deepak hanging from a pipe with a "gamchha" noose around his neck.
He was rushed to the state-run SSKM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body has since been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Police sources revealed that Deepak, a resident of Sat Mile in Kalimpong, was currently holding the rank of Deputy Inspector (DI), in addition to his duty in the commando unit.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation.
Investigators noted the presence of ligature marks on his neck.
The officer said the incident is being primarily treated as a suspected suicide, though they are also examining whether there were any other underlying reasons for his death.
Investigators are gathering details regarding his recent professional life and personal circumstances, while also questioning his colleagues.
No formal complaint has been lodged regarding the incident so far.
