Husband arrested for allegedly slitting wife's throat over domestic discord in Bengal's Nadia district

Krishnagar, Nov 1 (UNI) A man allegedly slit his wife's throat with a sharp cleaver and killed her following a domestic altercation at their home near Taraknagar station in Nadia's Krishnaganj area on Sunday morning.
The victim, identified as Sumitra Majumdar, was found lying in a pool of blood on the earthen floor of her house, while her husband, Samir Majumdar, was allegedly caught by residents and handed over to the police.
According to family sources, Samir had asked his son, Babusona, to bring his mother home on Sunday morning. Soon after Sumitra arrived, an altercation reportedly broke out between the couple. The situation allegedly took a violent turn after their son left the house, leaving the couple alone.
When neighbours grew suspicious and entered the house, they found Sumitra lying in a blood-soaked condition. Samir was allegedly questioned by the locals and reportedly admitted to killing his wife. The residents subsequently detained him and handed him over to Krishnaganj police, said Tapas Mandal, a neighbour.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body before sending it to Saktinagar District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A senior police official said, “Samir Majumdar has been arrested and taken into police custody. Preliminary investigation suggests that prolonged domestic discord may have led to the murder, though police are probing the circumstances and the precise motive behind the crime.”
The brutal killing has triggered widespread shock and panic in the locality.
