Hyd: AI disrupting traditional education-employment model, youth must become job creators: Chowdary

Hyderabad, Sep 19 (UNI) Artificial Intelligence (AI) is disrupting the traditional education-employment model and young people must focus on identifying problems, building solutions and creating jobs rather than merely seeking employment, said Dr J.A. Chowdary, Founder and Chairman, International Startup Foundation and former Special Chief Secretary and IT Advisor to the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing the Industry Leadership Summit 2026, hosted by Ashoka School of Business (ASB) here, Chowdary said the conventional path of obtaining a degree, waiting for campus recruitment and building a career by executing instructions was no longer sufficient in the age of AI.
"The future belongs to young people who can identify problems, build solutions and create jobs rather than merely look for jobs," he said, adding that universities should move beyond degrees and credits to nurture competence, entrepreneurship, mentorship and real-world problem-solving.
The summit, held on the theme "Leadership in the Time of Uncertainty," brought together business and HR leaders, technology professionals, corporate decision-makers and academicians to discuss strategic decision-making, AI-led transformation, workforce preparedness and the future of leadership.
The first panel, "Leading through the Fog: The Art of Decision Making and the Way Forward," examined how organisations can make strategic decisions amid rapidly changing technology, markets and organisational priorities.
Moderated by Pallavi Singh, Vice President, Genpact, the panel featured Anuradha A, Executive Director, IBM; Dr Venkatram, MD and CEO, Seedworks; Vijaya Kadiyala, Executive Director, DBS Tech India; Dr U Ram Mohan, Principal Director, Truth Labs; and Siva, Director, EisnerAmper.
The panel discussed strategic agility, risk assessment and the growing role of AI and data in decision-making, while stressing the importance of combining technology-driven insights with leadership experience, contextual understanding and human judgement.
The second panel, "Zero Visibility and the Way Forward: Leading People When the AI Map Is Still Being Drawn," focused on the impact of AI on job roles, workplace expectations and future skill requirements.
Moderated by Neha Samantaray, Global Head–Enabler, Micron Technology, the panel featured Barnali Bhattacharjee, Head of HR, FedEx GCS India; Gaurri Butti, Executive Director–HR, Wells Fargo; Lt Col Pragathi Kumar, HR Director, AT&T; and Cireesha Mailavarapu, Associate Vice President–HR, Sodexo.
The HR leaders highlighted the importance of continuous learning, upskilling and reskilling as organisations adapt to AI-driven changes.
They also stressed transparent employee communication and people-centric leadership during technological transitions.
Ashoka School of Business Secretary Arjun Kumar Nomula said the institution aimed to develop future leaders, entrepreneurs and job creators through experiential learning, industry exposure and engagement with corporate leaders.
ASB Director Dr Arijit Santikary said the summit provided a platform for industry and academia to exchange perspectives on leadership, decision-making and adaptability in a rapidly changing environment.
He said such interactions helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world leadership and enabled students to develop critical thinking, adaptability and leadership capabilities.
The summit concluded with discussions among industry leaders, corporate professionals and academicians on building agile, responsible, people-centric and future-ready organisations in the AI era.
