Hyderabad City Police organises coordination meeting ahead of Bakrid

Hyderabad, May 27 (UNI) A coordination meeting was held at the Salar Jung Museum Auditorium on Tuesday to ensure a peaceful and hygienic celebration of the Bakrid festival in Hyderabad.
The meeting was chaired by Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C V Anand and attended by officials from key government departments, including the Animal Husbandry Department, GHMC, RTA, TGSPDCL, and HMWSS&B.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Anand emphasised that checkpoints would be established across the city to monitor and prevent the illegal transport of animals and ensure overall security.
He appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands, underlining that only authorised officials from the police and concerned departments are permitted to stop or inspect vehicles.
He instructed the Animal Husbandry Department and GHMC to ensure the availability of veterinary doctors round-the-clock at all checkpoints. GHMC was also directed to deploy street dog-catching teams in all localities, supply disposal covers to households for animal carcasses, and arrange special teams for the collection of waste and carcasses on the day of the festival. Furthermore, GHMC was asked to ensure the availability of sufficient vehicles, tippers, JCBs, and sanitation personnel to manage the increased waste during Bakrid.
The Electricity and Engineering Departments were tasked with ensuring an uninterrupted power supply throughout the festival. Officials from HMWSS&B were asked to maintain sewerage systems and ensure a continuous water supply. The RTA was requested to ensure the availability of adequate numbers of drivers, mechanics, and cranes across the city.
Muslim religious leaders and community representatives appealed to citizens to dispose of animal waste only at designated points, maintain cleanliness, and extend full cooperation to law enforcement and civic agencies. They stressed the importance of preserving Hyderabad's rich Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb and shared responsibility for maintaining peace.
The GHMC Zonal Commissioner detailed the sanitation measures planned, including the deployment of additional cleaning staff and waste collection vehicles near mosques and residential areas. He assured that garbage bags would be distributed and that GHMC teams would be actively on duty.
Commissioner Anand clarified that only police, GHMC, and Animal Husbandry personnel would be deployed at checkpoints. He assured full support from the Hyderabad City Police and stated that this well-coordinated, multi-departmental approach, combined with active community participation, will ensure a smooth, safe, and joyous Bakrid celebration for all residents of the city, a police statement said.
