Hyderabad Police bust Nepal-based 'murder-for-gain' gang, arrest four

Hyderabad, Oct 26 (UNI) Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar on Monday announced the arrest of four members, including a woman, of an alleged Nepal-based international gang in connection with the murder-for-gain of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Ray Vinay Ranjan, at Prashasan Nagar in Jubilee Hills in May this year.
Addressing a press conference at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Sajjanar said a joint team of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Jubilee Hills Police apprehended the four accused near Nampally Railway Station on Monday following an extensive investigation spanning several states and the India–Nepal border. Police seized Rs 51,130 in cash and other incriminating material. Two other accused are still absconding.
According to police, the victim was found dead with her hands tied and a cloth stuffed into her mouth on the night of May 7–8. The house had been ransacked, and around 225 grams of gold jewellery and other valuables were stolen. Investigators alleged that the victim’s domestic help, who was among those arrested, helped the gang plan and execute the robbery.
The gang members allegedly divided the stolen property among themselves before fleeing to Nepal. Earlier, police had arrested two accused and recovered part of the stolen property.
The operation also led to the execution of five pending non-bailable warrants against absconding Nepali nationals and the apprehension of another alleged habitual property offender linked to multiple cases across Telangana and other states.
Sajjanar urged residents, apartment associations and gated communities to verify the identity, references, residence and employment history of domestic workers, cooks, watchmen and caretakers before hiring them. He advised the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
