Hyderabad police strengthen fight against human trafficking and child protection

Hyderabad, June 17 (UNI) Safeguarding children, the Hyderabad Police today announced the formal constitution and inauguration of renovated facilities for its Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) and Juvenile Bureau (JB) Unit.
A Victim Assistance Unit (VAU) was also established in collaboration with the NGO, Prajwala, a release said here.
Speaking on the occasion, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said the AHTU has been formally constituted with a sanctioned strength of eight personnel, including one Inspector, two Sub-Inspectors, two head constables and three constables.
“The unit is entrusted with responsibilities aimed at curbing the trafficking of women and children,” CV Anand said.
This year, the AHTU conducted raids at various hotspots that resulted in registering 23 cases, rescue of 44 victims, and the arrest of 71 individuals.
The Juvenile Bureau Team, also known as the Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), has been formally constituted with a sanctioned strength of seven personnel.
Based at the Central Crime Station, Hyderabad, the team’s primary responsibility is to protect children from atrocities such as child labour, human trafficking, and bonded labour.
Until June 2025, the Bureau repatriated four children within the State and seven children to other states, in addition to rescuing 896 children.
