IIT-ISM professor ranks sixth globally in enhanced oil recovery

Dhanbad, Oct 8 (UNI) IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Professor Ajay Mandal has been ranked sixth globally and first in India among the world’s top 1,000 scholars in Enhanced Oil Recovery Techniques, according to a 2026 Verified Ranking Certificate.
Mandal, Professor (HAG) and former head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, secured World Rank 6 in the lifetime impact category and India Rank 1 within the World Top1000 for the subject.
The certificate records an impact score of 99.78, a statistical percentile of Top 0.02 per cent, a Category D-index of 63 and an H-index of 72.
Mandal was also recognised by ScholarGPS in 2026 as a Highly Ranked Scholar for lifetime impact, placing him among the top 0.05 per cent of scholars worldwide in Petroleum Engineering and the specialties of Enhanced Oil Recovery and Petroleum, according to the institute.
In June, he was awarded Chartered Chemist (CChem) status by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, following a peer-review process recognising his professional competence and scientific expertise.
Mandal’s research areas include enhanced oil recovery, nanoemulsions, surfactant-assisted recovery, carbon utilisation and storage, and related energy technologies.
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad said the recognition reflected Mandal’s continuing contribution to research in petroleum and energy engineering.
