Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren performs mother Roopi Soren’s last rites

Ramgarh, Oct 8 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday performed the last rites of his mother and late JMM leader Shibu Soren’s wife, Roopi Soren, at her ancestral village Nemra in Ramgarh district, amid the presence of a large number of people.
Roopi Soren’s mortal remains were brought to Nemra in the afternoon and taken to the Dhekanala cremation ground.
Hemant performed the last rites and lit the funeral pyre in accordance with traditional rituals.
A large number of people, including state ministers, MPs, legislators from ruling and opposition parties, political leaders, supporters and local residents, gathered in Nemra to pay their final respects. The atmosphere remained solemn as the funeral procession proceeded to the cremation ground.
In view of the expected gathering, the Ramgarh and Hazaribagh district administrations made security and traffic arrangements. Police personnel and magistrates were deployed at key locations for crowd management and security.
Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner Rituraj and Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat reviewed the arrangements at the cremation site and surrounding areas. Road repair work was also undertaken on the Gola-Muri route to facilitate the movement of people travelling to Nemra.
Earlier in the day, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar visited Hemant’s Morabadi residence in Ranchi and paid floral tribute to Roopi Soren. He also met the bereaved family and expressed his condolences.
State ministers Chamra Linda and Dipika Pandey Singh, MPs Vijay Hansdak and Dhullu Mahto, former chief ministers Arjun Munda and Champai Soren, former deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto, legislators, former ministers and senior officials also paid their respects at the Morabadi residence.
Roopi Soren died at Hill View Hospital in Ranchi on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.
