In Asia Cup semis rematch, India face Bangladesh for place in Asian Games final

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Defending champions India will renew their rivalry with Bangladesh in a rematch of their recent Asia Cup semifinal when the two sides meet in the women's Asian Games last-four clash in Nisshin, Japan, on Sunday.

India had beaten Bangladesh by 40 runs in the Asia Cup semifinal last week and will enter Sunday's contest with a strong record against their neighbours, having won their last nine meetings. Bangladesh’s last T20I victory over India came three years ago.

The Indian team also made a convincing start to its Asian Games title defence, brushing aside hosts Japan by eight wickets on Friday. Chasing 58, India reached the target with 15 overs to
spare to comfortably book their place in the semifinals.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, progressed after their quarterfinal against China was abandoned due to
a wet outfield. They advanced on the basis of their higher ICC ranking.

India's bowlers had little trouble exploiting the turn and bounce on offer against Japan. Left-arm spinner Shree Charani continued her impressive form from the Asia Cup, while Shafali Verma chipped in with her part-time spin. Deepti Sharma also made an impact, while Shreyanka Patil returned to action after a three-month injury layoff.

India's batting was barely tested in the quarterfinal as Shafali single-handedly completed the 58-run chase. Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur did not need to bat and are expected to return to the middle against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh will look to their spin attack to make life difficult for India's batters, with Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan likely to play key roles. They will hope to extract whatever assistance
the surface offers and contain India's aggressive top order.

With another final appearance at stake, India will be keen to maintain their recent dominance over Bangladesh while avoiding any complacency in a knockout contest.
