INDIA Bloc holds rally seeking Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation

Agartala, Oct 30 (UNI) The INDIA bloc in Tripura held a massive protest rally in Agartala on Friday, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleging gross irregularities in the electoral process.
The rally was led by former Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar, along with Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, Tripura Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, Congress MLAs Gopal Chandra Roy and Sudip Roy Barman, and leaders from eight political parties.
During the event, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman accused the Election Commission of undermining democracy. Opposition leaders asserted that the downfall of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in the upcoming elections is inevitable.
He criticised the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and called for electoral reforms, the reinstatement of the previous law regarding the appointment of Election Commissioners, and the removal and arrest of Gyanesh Kumar.
"The public is aware, and the fall of Narendra Modi in the upcoming elections is inevitable," Roy Barman asserted. However, he maintained that the protest was aimed at safeguarding the national tricolour, the Constitution, and democratic institutions.
For his part, Chaudhury claimed that numerous institutions, including the Judiciary, Election Commission, CBI, Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department, and Reserve Bank of India, have been weakened over the last 13 years.
Chaudhury further contended that the Election Commission was failing to uphold democratic values and accused it of compromising the integrity of the electoral process. He urged opposition parties and secular democratic forces to unite to protect the country’s constitutional principles and ensure free and fair elections.
