India voices concern at drone attack near Makkah

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) India has voiced deep concern at the drone attack near Makkah in Saudi Arabia and expressed hope for the early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a statement also reiterated New Delhi's condemnation of attacks on Saudi territory and of actions that endanger civilian lives and infrastructure.
"We are deeply concerned at the drone attack near Makkah. India reiterates its condemnation of attacks on the sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and of actions that endanger civilian lives and infrastructure. The incident near Makkah is particularly concerning, given the special significance of the city to Muslims across the world.
"We hope for the early restoration of peace and stability in the region."
On Tuesday evening, the Royal Saudi Air Defence Forces said they intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone south of Makkah, preventing it from entering the holy city's restricted airspace.
Saudi Arabia has heavily condemned the act, calling the safety of Makkah and its pilgrims a non-negotiable "red line" .
However, Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis have categorically denied targeting Makkah or any Islamic holy sites, calling the Saudi report a "worn-out lie" and a fabrication.
