India win bid to host 2032 UCI Road World Championships

New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Pune will host the UCI Road World Championships in 2032, becoming the first Indian city to stage cycling's biggest global road-racing event, the union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced at its Congress in Montreal, Canada.
The bid was jointly submitted by the Government of Maharashtra and the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), with support from the Government of India, and was built around a plan to establish Pune as an international cycling destination.
The UCI Road World Championships bring together the world's leading cyclists across multiple road-racing disciplines, with riders competing for the prestigious rainbow jerseys.
Pune's selection comes as India seeks to expand its international sporting footprint and strengthen its infrastructure ahead of a potential bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. The National Sports Policy 2025 has also set out a roadmap for developing India into a global sporting powerhouse.
The scale of the championships was evident at the 2025 edition in Kigali, which featured 734 riders from 113 countries, attracted around two million spectators and reached a global television audience of nearly 300 million.
