Indian Navy’s 1st Training Squadron arrives in Colombo for maritime engagements

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), comprising INS Tir, INS Sujata and Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi, arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for a port call aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation and professional engagement between the two countries.
The ships received a ceremonial welcome from the Sri Lankan Navy in the presence of a naval band, marking the commencement of the visit.
During the port call, the Director General of Naval Training and the Commander of the Eastern Naval Area of the Sri Lanka Navy interacted with sea trainees onboard the Indian ships, exchanging perspectives on professional naval training.
Personnel from the two navies will participate in a range of professional and training engagements, including cross-training visits and a Passage Exercise (PASSEX). The activities are aimed at facilitating the exchange of professional knowledge, familiarisation with operational procedures and strengthening coordination between the two maritime forces.
Community outreach programmes and ship visits for the public are also scheduled during the visit to promote interaction with the local community and provide an insight into the Indian Navy’s ships and training activities.
The visit underscores the longstanding maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka and the commitment of both navies to enhancing professional cooperation and mutual understanding.
It also aligns with India’s vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), which emphasises regional cooperation, maritime security and shared prosperity.
