SIMBEX-2026 concludes in Visakhapatnam, strengthens India-Singapore maritime cooperation

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) The 33rd edition of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX-2026) concluded at Visakhapatnam, with the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) undertaking a range of maritime warfare drills to enhance operational interoperability and coordination.
Hosted by the Indian Navy, the exercise was conducted in two phases, combining professional exchanges and joint planning during the harbour phase with complex operational drills in the Bay of Bengal during the sea phase.
The harbour phase featured Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs), cross-deck visits, professional interactions, sporting engagements and planning conferences, providing personnel of both navies an opportunity to exchange operational knowledge and strengthen mutual understanding.
During the engagement, Colonel Bertram Ang, Fleet Commander of the RSN, called on Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi, Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Fleet. The two officers exchanged professional views on enhancing maritime cooperation and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The sea phase involved a range of maritime warfare activities, including Maritime Interdiction Operations, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Anti-Air Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare drills. The participating forces also undertook seamanship evolutions and cross-deck flying operations to improve coordination and interoperability in a maritime operational environment.
The Singapore Navy participated with RSS Supreme, a Formidable-class stealth frigate carrying an embarked SH-70B helicopter.
The Indian Navy deployed the indigenously built stealth frigate INS Nilgiri and anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta, along with P-8I and Dornier maritime patrol aircraft, Hawk Advanced Jet Trainers and MH-60R helicopters.
SIMBEX remains a key platform for advancing defence ties and maritime engagement between India and Singapore. The exercise underscores the commitment of the two countries to strengthening maritime security, enhancing operational cooperation and contributing to peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
