Imphal, June 10 (UNI) In order to encourage investment in logistics sector in Manipur, the state government has accorded industry status to the 'logistics' sector. The proposal was approved in the meeting of Governor-in-Council held on May 29, said a statement issued by the information office on Tuesday.
The proposal was taken up in pursuance of the recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India for integration of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing and strengthening of logistics in the region.
Manipur has high potential as a strategic economic corridor in the northeastern region due to its geographic location, Act East Policy linkages and an improving infrastructure. Manipur is the gateway to South East Asia and it is central to India’s strategic integration with ASEAN countries.
The government is investing heavily in connectivity, trade infrastructure and cross-border cooperation, it was added. Development of logistics park and related infrastructure at the exit-entry points of the state is the need of the hour, it said.
After the industry status, all logistics and warehousing units established or to be established in Manipur will become eligible to avail benefits and incentives under the extant Manipur Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2022 and other relevant schemes of the state government, it also said.
