Initiatives to reach Uttar Pradesh's food processing products in global markets accelerated

Lucknow, Oct 31 (UNI) Efforts are being intensified to connect Uttar Pradesh's agriculture, horticulture, and food processing sectors with international markets. New opportunities for cooperation between India and Kenya are being explored to gain global recognition for the produce of the state's farmers, and the products of self-help groups, women entrepreneurs, and food processing industries and to expand export potential.
In this context, the High Commissioner of India to Kenya, Adarsh, and Deputy High Commissioner Sushil Prasad accompanied by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, B.L. Meena, Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, Asia Director of the International Potato Center (CIP), and Dr. Neeraj Sharma, India Country Manager of CIP, held an important meeting here on Saturday.
The meeting discussed in detail the importance of enhancing cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Kenya in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, and food processing, and of connecting the industrial capabilities of both regions.
The innovative ideas presented by Additional Chief Secretary B.L. Meena, particularly the proposal to develop partnerships between the food processing industries of Uttar Pradesh and Kenya, received a positive response.
This initiative will strengthen the potential for value addition to agricultural products, the exchange of modern processing techniques, new investment opportunities, and increased access to international markets.
During the meeting, the Indian High Commissioner also encouraged companies from Uttar Pradesh to explore the possibilities of leasing land in Kenya for agricultural production.
The possibility of bringing such produce to Indian markets was discussed, and he assured necessary support in this direction.
Meena stated that the state government, under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, is committed to promoting agriculture-based industries, establishing food processing units, ensuring better prices for farmers' produce, creating employment, and promoting entrepreneurship.
Central government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Micro Food Processing Enterprises Upgradation Scheme (PMFME) provide an important foundation in this direction.
The state's Food Processing Policy 2023 is also encouraging investment and industrial establishment. This initiative is a significant step towards realizing the commitment to bring local products to the global market.
This has the potential to foster international cooperation, technological innovation, private investment, and new employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh's agriculture and food processing sectors.
