INS Vikrant replica unveiled in Kerala capital, celebrates India's naval prowess

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 12 (UNI) A detailed 1:24 scale replica of INS Vikrant, India's first indigenously built aircraft carrier, was dedicated to the Kerala capital at Museum Junction here on Monday, showcasing the country's growing naval capabilities and indigenous shipbuilding prowess.
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar dedicated the model in the presence of Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
Admiral R. Harikumar (Retd), former Chief of the Naval Staff, Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh, senior officials of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, representatives of the Kerala government, naval veterans and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
The installation is part of an initiative to display scale models of INS Vikrant in various cities across the country, bringing India's maritime achievements closer to the public and highlighting the country's progress in indigenous defence manufacturing.
Commissioned on September 2, 2022, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, INS Vikrant is India's first aircraft carrier designed and built domestically and the largest warship constructed in the country. Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi, the carrier represents a major milestone in India's warship design, engineering and construction capabilities and stands as a symbol of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The meticulously crafted scale model reproduces the distinctive features and configuration of the aircraft carrier, offering visitors a closer view of the technological and engineering achievements behind the construction of the formidable warship.
The dedication also highlights the enduring maritime association between the Indian Navy and the people of Kerala. The model is expected to inspire young people to pursue excellence in science, technology and engineering, while fostering awareness of India's maritime heritage and contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat.
