IPL 2027 mini-auction in Goa on Dec 16

Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 mini-auction will be held in Goa on December 16, with all 10 franchises required to submit their retained and released player lists by November 15.
The day-long auction will coincide with the second One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
Following the retention deadline, the IPL will circulate the registered pool of players for franchises to shortlist. The final list of players, along with the order of sets, is expected to be released in the week leading up to the auction.
The auction will be the first to return to India after three consecutive editions were held overseas. The previous auctions took place in Dubai in 2023, Jeddah in 2024 and Abu Dhabi in 2025.
The event will be the last mini-auction in the IPL's current cycle, with a mega-auction scheduled ahead of the 2028 season. The mega-auction is expected to usher in the league's next media rights cycle.
Several significant player transfers have already taken place since the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Lucknow Super Giants traded their captain Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals in exchange for wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Delhi Capitals subsequently traded fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad for uncapped leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari.
The IPL trade window opens a month after the conclusion of a season, remains open until a week before the auction and subsequently reopens until a month before the next season begins.
Meanwhile, the future of the Impact Player rule, which allows teams to introduce a substitute player during a match, remains a subject of discussion. The rule has attracted criticism from several prominent players who have argued that it could reduce the importance of genuine all-rounders.
Player availability could also influence franchise strategies, given Australia's packed international calendar in 2027, which includes a five-Test tour of India and the Ashes in England.
The dates for the 2027 IPL season have not yet been finalised. While an earlier schedule window announced by the BCCI covered March 14 to May 30, board secretary Devajit Saikia subsequently indicated that the tournament could begin towards the end of March.
The BCCI has yet to issue the tender for the IPL's next media rights cycle. The current media rights were sold in 2022 for Rs 48,390.5 crore, equivalent to approximately USD 6.2 billion at the time.
