Jammu, June 26 (UNI) Security Forces have neutralised one terrorist in an ongoing encounter in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Army here said that under 'Op Bihali', "in the ongoing joint operation by Indian Army and J&K Police in Basantgarh, one terrorist has been neutralized till now."
The operation continues, said Army.
A gunfight erupted between terrorists and security forces this morning in a remote village of Basantgarh.
Acting on tip off about the movement of terrorists, a joint team of police and army launched a search operation in the general area of Sazi, near Karoor Nallah in Basantgarh.
"The search party was fired upon by the terrorists, which was retaliated," they said.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti said here today on the sidelines of a function said that the encounter took place between terrorists and security forces in Basantgarh area of Udhampur.
Tuti said the encounter between terrorists and security forces started at around 8:30 am, adding, "for the last one year, police had information about the presence of terrorists with whom contact was established this morning."
He added, "this is believed to be the same group of around four terrorists active for the last one year."
Regarding the security of Amarnath Yatra, Jammu Zone IGP claimed that Jammu and Kashmir Police is ready to ensure the safety of every pilgrim.
