Jarange ready to hand over Rs 500 crore audio clip to SIT, seeks security assurance for source

Mumbai, Nov 4 (UNI) Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange-Patil has agreed to hand over the controversial audio clip allegedly referring to a Rs 500 crore transaction to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the allegations.
However, he has sought an assurance from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde that the person who provided the recording will not face any threat to life.
The controversy erupted after Jarange played the audio clip during a press conference, triggering a political storm in Maharashtra.
The recording allegedly claimed that Rs 500 crore had been given to Jarange through the intervention of Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde. The allegations also sparked a war of words between the BJP and the Shiv Sena, with both parties distancing themselves from the controversy.
Questioning the allegations, Jarange had asked whether anyone had collected money in his name, claiming that he had never received Rs 500 crore.
He also demanded an impartial investigation to identify those behind the alleged transaction and bring the truth before the public.
The SIT has now approached Jarange through an official letter, seeking the audio recording for investigation.
Responding to the request, Jarange expressed his willingness to hand over the clip and disclose its source. However, he insisted that the government must first guarantee the safety of the person who supplied the recording.
Speaking to reporters, Jarange said he was ready to cooperate with the investigation and provide details about the source, provided the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister assured that the individual concerned would be protected.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to constitute a Special Investigation Team to conduct a comprehensive probe into the matter. Accordingly, a three-member SIT has been formed under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade.
The SIT comprises Shailesh Balkawade, Additional Commissioner of Police, as its chairperson, while Vijaykant Sagar and Bajrang Bansode, both Deputy Commissioners of Police, will serve as members.
The committee has been tasked with investigating the authenticity and origin of the audio recording and identifying those responsible for the alleged conversation.
Jarange had demanded that the government conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into the matter, maintaining that the truth behind the sensational Rs 500 crore allegation must come out.
