Jharkhand: AIACE seeks Coal Ministry intervention over CCL medical claim

Ranchi, Oct 4 (UNI) The All India Association of Coal Executives (AIACE) has sought the Coal Ministry’s intervention in the long-pending medical reimbursement claims of retired CCL chief manager V V Phalgunan Pillai, whose wife is undergoing cancer treatment.
In a letter to the Secretary, Ministry of Coal, dated October 3, AIACE urged the ministry to direct Coal India Ltd (CIL) Chairman to convene an urgent meeting with the association, CCL management and officials concerned with the CPRMSE/PRB cell.
The association said Pillai had been pursuing reimbursement of medical bills related to his wife Sreedhari Pillai’s ongoing cancer treatment and that the matter had remained pending for a long period.
AIACE said Pillai was considering a peaceful hunger strike from 11 am on November 1 at the CCL CMD’s office premises at Darbhanga House in Ranchi if the matter was not resolved.
The association clarified that it was not seeking any payment without verification or relaxation of applicable rules. It sought a fair, transparent and time-bound examination of the claims followed by payment of admissible dues.
AIACE requested the ministry to direct CCL to prepare a consolidated statement of all pending bills, including the amount claimed and sanctioned, current status, department or officer handling the file, reasons for pendency and expected date of payment.
It also sought completion of verification and release of all admissible pending reimbursement amounts by October 20, subject to applicable rules and formalities.
The association further sought a review of long-pending bills, including cases where bills could not be traced or had already been forwarded to the finance department but remained unpaid.
AIACE said timely administrative intervention could help resolve the grievance and avoid a protest by a retired executive on Coal India’s Foundation Day.
