Jharkhand bus operators seek simplification of permit procedures

Ranchi, Oct 15 (UNI) Bus operators in Jharkhand on Thursday sought simplification of permit renewal, replacement of old buses with newer models and issuance of temporary contract permits, citing procedural delays and financial losses.
The demands were raised at a meeting held at the Chamber Bhawan, where members discussed difficulties faced by transport operators and decided to approach the transport department secretary for their early resolution.
The chamber said applications for renewal of bus permits pending since July 2024 should be processed without further delay. As most applications were submitted online, it was suggested to verify documents available on the VAHAN portal and complete renewals in accordance with existing rules.
It also called for simplifying the process of replacing older buses operating under existing permits with newer models. Delays in obtaining approval leave newly purchased buses, often financed through loans, idle and cause financial losses to operators, the chamber said.
The members urged the department to introduce a streamlined procedure with a fixed timeline for vehicle replacement.
The meeting also discussed simplifying the issuance of temporary contract permits ranging from one to 28 days for religious ceremonies, weddings, tourism, fairs and other events.
Chamber president Tulsi Patel urged the transport department secretary to address the practical difficulties faced by bus operators and initiate measures to simplify permit-related procedures.
Vice-president Vikas Vijayvargiya, joint secretary Amit Sharma and treasurer Navjot Alang attended the meeting.
